What's the best do-it-all zoom that can actually keep pace with the R1's autofocus? I've been a Canon shooter for a decade but this new body is so fast it feels like my adapted EF glass is struggling to keep up during high-speed bursts. I've got a major track meet coming up in Zurich next month and need to finalize my kit before then. Budget isn't a huge concern since it's for work, but I'm torn between the RF 24-70mm 2.8 and maybe the 24-105mm for the extra reach. Is anyone finding that the 24-70 2.8 is the only one that really maximizes that new sensor and AF or is the f4 version sharp enough for pro work?

Honestly, if you're hitting Zurich for a track meet, I would suggest sticking with the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM. The R1 is an absolute beast and adapted glass just doesnt have the same communication speed. While the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is sharp, you might want to consider the Dual Nano USM motors in the 2.8 version. They're specifically tuned for the high-speed tracking that the R1 excels at. Be careful with f/4 glass during evening events... even with the R1's noise handling, you need that extra stop to keep shutter speeds high for athletes. Make sure to test the focus acquisition before you fly out. I've noticed the f/2.8 snaps to the subject much faster during high-speed bursts. Dont risk the f/4 if work is paying for it, tbh.
