I recently upgraded to the Canon R6, and while the camera is incredible, the body definitely ate up most of my gear budget! I’m really itching to get out for some landscape photography, but I need a solid wide-angle lens that won't break the bank. I’ve been eyeing the RF 16mm f/2.8 because it’s so affordable and compact, but I’m also curious if adapting an older EF 17-40mm f/4L would give me better results for the price. I'm hoping to stay under $500 if possible. Does anyone have experience with these options on the R6, or is there another budget-friendly lens I’m overlooking for sharp vistas?

For your situation, I've tried many lenses and tbh, both choices have merit. Here's what I recommend: - Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM: Super light, but honestly the barrel distortion is HUGE.
- Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM: Way better optics and weather sealing. In my experience, the 17-40mm is much sharper for vistas. Idk if f/4 is enough light for you? It's basically a STEAL used right now! cheers

For your situation, I’ve actually been in that exact same boat with my R6. > I’ve been eyeing the RF 16mm f/2.8 because it’s so affordable and compact, but I’m also curious if adapting an older EF 17-40mm f/4L would give me better results for the price. So, I’ve used both and honestly, if ur just starting out with landscapes on a budget, the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is seriously hard to beat. It’s basically tiny and super light, tho the distortion is kinda crazy without the cameras profile correction lol. But yeah, the center is sharp and it’s soooo much easier to hike with. I also tried the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM with the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R and while it feels 'pro', it’s just so bulky with the adapter. Tbh, I'm super satisfied with the 16mm. If u want a zoom tho, definitely check out the Canon RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM, it’s right around $500 and works well for vistas. gl!
