What is the best all-around lens for a Canon EOS R6? I just got the camera and I have no clue how to use it yet so sorry if this sounds stupid. I am going on a trip to Japan next month and I really just want one single lens that can do everything like street stuff and food photos. I dont want to be swapping things out all day while I am walking around. My budget is right around $1000 but maybe I could stretch it a little. Is there a specific one that people usually start with? I keep seeing things about RF and EF and I am just so confused about what actually fits the camera without an adapter...
Honestly, if you want one lens to live on your R6 forever, you really gotta look at the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. I picked mine up right before a big trip last year and I was so happy with how it handled everything. I basically never took it off the whole week. Since the R6 is a newer mirrorless camera, you definitely want native RF glass so you dont have to mess with those clunky adapters. The RF mount is designed specifically for your camera body, so it just clicks right on and feels way more balanced than the old EF stuff meant for DSLRs. I used to carry three different lenses, but for street stuff in a busy city, swapping glass is just a recipe for getting dust on your sensor or missing a shot. With this 24-105, I could go from a wide shot of a building at 24mm to a tight shot of my dinner at the long end without missing a beat. The f/4 aperture is constant, which means your exposure doesnt jump around when you zoom in. It works so well for food too because the focus distance is actually pretty short. It might push your $1000 budget a tiny bit if you buy it brand new, but check for refurbished sales. I have zero complaints about the sharpness and the colors are just beautiful. Seriously, dont overthink it, just stick to native RF for Japan and you will be set.
