What is the best all-around lens for a Canon EOS R6?

I've been staring at my screen for three hours and I'm honestly just annoyed at how expensive glass is for the R6. I bought the body like six months ago and I've just been using an old adapted nifty fifty but I'm going to Tokyo in three weeks and I need a real do-it-all lens because I don't want to carry a giant bag of primes and honestly I'm just overwhelmed with the options.

I'm stuck between the RF 24-105mm f4L and the RF 24-70mm f2.8. The 24-70 is obviously better for low light but it's freaking huge and like double the price of what I want to spend and I just dont know if I can justify it. I've got a hard limit of $1400 which makes the 2.8 impossible unless I find a miracle used deal. Then there's the cheap non-L 24-105 but I'm worried the image quality won't keep up with the sensor.

Here's what I need:

  • stays under 1.5 lbs if possible my neck can't take much more
  • good enough for street photography at night
  • versatile enough for landscapes and portraits
  • must arrive before my flight on the 12th

Is the f4 really gonna be okay for those neon Tokyo streets at night or am I gonna regret not saving up for the 2.8? Or should I just give up and get the 24-240 superzoom even though it feels like a waste on an R6 body? I'm just so torn right now and every review says something different...

I was so worried about f4 at night too!! But honestly taking the Canon RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM to NYC last year was amazing. The R6 sensor is a total beast with high ISO so the extra light from the 2.8 isnt even needed. Its way lighter and safer for your budget tho. Just let the ISO go high and trust the internal stabilization!
