What is the best all-around lens for the new Canon EOS R5 Mark II?

I just dropped a disgusting amount of money on the new R5 Mark II and honestly im about to lose my mind because I cant figure out what glass to actually keep on this thing. I tried using my old EF 24-70 with the adapter but the balance feels totally off and the autofocus is doing this weird pulsing thing during video which is driving me insane since I have a huge wedding shoot in Breckenridge in like ten days. I thought the whole point of upgrading was to make my life easier but right now im just staring at a very expensive paperweight because I cant commit to a native RF lens.

My logic was that I could just get away with the adapter for a while but its clunky and heavy and I feel like im not even getting the speed this camera is supposed to have. So I was thinking maybe the RF 24-105mm f4 L? People say its the perfect do everything lens but then I worry about the f4 being too slow for the receptions or getting that nice bokeh for the portraits. But then the RF 24-70mm f2.8 is like... another $2300? My bank account is literally screaming at me after the body purchase and I still need to buy CFexpress cards.

Ive been looking at these three options and keep going in circles:

  • the RF 24-105mm f4 (is it sharp enough for 45mp?)
  • the RF 24-70mm f2.8 (can I justify the price jump?)
  • the 28-70mm f2 (way too heavy for a 10 hour day)

I just need one lens that can stay on the camera 90% of the time because swapping glass in the middle of a ceremony is a nightmare I want to avoid. Is the 24-105 actually sharp enough for this sensor or am I gonna regret not getting the 2.8? I need to order something by tomorrow morning to get it here in time for the trip and im spiraling a bit. What is everyone else using as their main workhorse on the Mark II because I feel like I'm drowning in options and none of them feel perfect...

Unfortunately, I had issues with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM on high-res bodies. It's not as good as expected for 45MP and the f4 is a total buzzkill for wedding receptions.

  • Skip the 24-105; it's just too soft.
  • Get the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM.
  • Native glass fixes that pulsing AF problem immediately. The 2.8 is the only lens that handles that 45MP sensor properly.
