So I just grabbed the R50 for a trip to Japan next week because I wanted something smaller than my usual gear but I'm hitting a wall with the 1.6x crop factor. The 18-45mm kit lens is basically useless for vlogging at arms length because it just shows my face and nothing else once the digital IS kicks in it looks ridiculous.
I need something much wider but it has to be light for travel. My budget is firm at 500 bucks. I was looking at the RF-S 10-18mm but I'm worried it might be too slow for low light street stuff? Is there a better wide option for this mount that isnt gonna be super bulky with an adapter...
Ive dealt with that 1.6x crop for years and it really kills the frame once stabilization kicks in. You definitely need to stay under 12mm for vlogging.
- Keep it under 200g for travel
- Watch for slow apertures I think that wide zoom you mentioned might struggle in low light, but IIRC the R50 sensor handles high ISO pretty well. Not totally sure on the specific low-light trade-offs tho.
