I just got my hands on the R5 Mark II and it is a total beast but honestly I am panicking a little bit right now. I leave for a two week trek through the Swiss Alps and then down into Italy in literally nine days and I realized my old kit just isnt cutting it anymore. Ive been shooting with Canon for over a decade so I know my way around a camera but the autofocus on this new body is so fast that my adapted EF glass feels like its dragging its feet and the balance is just off. I really dont want to be swapping lenses every five minutes while I am hiking but I also dont want to sacrifice that 45MP resolution because I plan on doing some massive prints when I get back. Budget is around $2,800 but I need something that can handle everything from wide mountain vistas to low light street scenes in Rome without breaking my neck after walking ten miles a day. I was looking at the RF 24-105mm f/4L for the versatility but is f/4 gonna be a mistake for those evening shots? Or should I just bite the bullet on the 24-70mm f/2.8 despite the extra weight and less reach? What do you guys think is the absolute best all-around travel lens for this specific sensor?
Years ago on a ridge, I learned native Canon RF glass works best.
