What is the best all-around zoom lens for Canon R6?

Hey everyone! I finally made the jump to the Canon R6 and I’m absolutely loving the autofocus and low-light performance so far. However, I’m currently stuck using my old EF lenses with an adapter, and I really want to invest in a solid, native RF 'all-around' zoom lens that can stay on my camera 90% of the time.

I mostly do a mix of travel photography, family events, and the occasional landscape, so I need something versatile. I’ve been looking at the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM because the constant aperture is tempting for video, but I’ve also heard the cheaper STM version is surprisingly light and sharp for the price. Then there’s the RF 24-70mm f/2.8, though that price tag is a bit hard to swallow for a hobbyist like me!

I'm looking for that perfect balance where I don't have to carry a bag full of primes just to get a decent shot. Weight is a bit of a factor too since I’ll be hiking with it often. For those of you who have been using the R6 for a while, which zoom lens do you find yourself reaching for most often? Is the extra reach of the 105mm worth giving up the f/2.8, or is there another hidden gem I should be considering?

Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is the safest pick. Quick question tho, do you shoot indoors? - Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM: totaly disappointing
- Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM: honestly way too expensive

I looked at the expensive L-series glass but ended up going with the Canon RF 24-240mm f4-6.3 IS USM for my R6 and i am incredibly satisfied. I took it on a big hiking trip recently and the versatility is unbeatable for the price. While the Canon RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM is great, the extra reach on the 24-240mm saved me from carrying a second telephoto lens. Technically, the Nano USM focus is just as snappy as my more expensive glass. I grabbed mine refurbished for under 700 bucks which is a total steal compared to the 24-70mm price tag. For travel and family stuff, not having to swap lenses while your kids are running around is huge. It really works well as a one-lens solution if you dont want to break the bank.

hey! congrats on the R6, seriously such a beast for low light. basically, i gotta warn u about the weight trap first. i've seen so many people drop big bucks on the f/2.8 zoom only to leave it at home cuz it's a literal brick for hiking. if ur doing travel and family stuff, u dont wanna be lugging around a gym weight all day lol. in my experience, the f/4 L-series zoom is the real sweet spot. i've used it for years and that extra reach at the long end is way more useful for travel than that extra stop of light, plus the constant aperture is basically mandatory for video. also, definitely avoid the cheaper non-L version... its just not built for the outdoors and u'll regret it the first time it gets a bit of rain on it. honestly, the f/4 L is the one that stays on my camera 95% of the time. good luck!
