What is actually the best all-around lens for a Canon EOS R6 if I only have like two weeks to decide? Im totally panicking because I booked this last minute trip to Iceland and I realized my current kit is just way too bulky to carry around while hiking. I want one lens that stays on the camera 90% of the time.
I'm currently stuck between the RF 24-105mm f/4L and the RF 24-70mm f/2.8L. The 24-105 seems like the smart choice because of the extra reach for landscapes but then I keep thinking about the northern lights and those darker winter days in the fjords and wondering if f/4 is gonna be a total mistake. But then the 24-70 is like double the price and so much heavier... my budget is capped at $2k max and I'm already stretching it.
I also saw some people talking about the 24-240mm superzoom which would be great for not having to switch lenses in the wind and rain but is the quality actually good enough for an R6? I dont want to waste the sensor on a soft lens. Which one should I pull the trigger on before the shipping cutoff on Friday? I really need to get this ordered like yesterday...
In my experience, reach beats a fast aperture for hiking. Just get the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Tbh the R6 sensor is so good that f/4 wont ruin your aurora shots.
- 24-105mm: Sharp, light, and fits your budget.
- Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM: Way too heavy and expensive.
- Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM: Image quality isnt there for the R6. Order it now and dont look back.
