I just got a Canon R10 for my kids birthday next month but I am totally lost with all these numbers and parts. I only have maybe $200 left and I'm really worried I'll buy something that doesnt even fit the camera... sorry if this is stupid but what budget prime lens is actually the best for a beginner?

Honestly, you cant go wrong with the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. I remember when I first started out with a similar crop sensor body, I spent way too much time worrying about the tech specs before realizing I just needed something simple to take photos of my kids at dinner or the park. On your R10, this lens acts like a portrait lens, which is a decent option for snapping pics without being right in their face... kind of lets you capture natural moments. It fits right onto the camera body without any extra parts or adapters. Just make sure the box says RF and not EF, or youll need a converter. Quick tip: Look for a refurbished one directly from the Canon site to save cash for a fast SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC V30 card. Always double check that the lens mount is RF before paying.
