^ This. Also, just saw this thread and you really gotta be careful with focal lengths. The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM is cheap but its way too tight for indoor crowds on a crop sensor tbh. I would suggest looking for a deal on the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM instead. Its more reliable for group shots and you wont regret having that extra breathing room in a cramped hall.

Unfortunately the 50mm was way too tight for me at a graduation once. It was a total disaster tbh. Just get the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM so you dont miss anything.

The Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM is honestly a lifesaver for crop sensors like the R50. It makes everything so much easier when you're stuck in a crowded seat and cant move around. I love this little lens, it is super sharp and tiny, basically disappears on the camera body. If you can hunt around for a used one on sites like MPB or KEH, you might even save enough cash to grab an extra SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB SDXC UHS-I card or a spare battery for the long ceremony. Trust me, you do not want to be fumbling with your gear when the graduation walk happens! Go for the 28mm, you wont regret it.

If you are still stressing about this right before next Friday, grab the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM instead if your main goal is portraits of your sister after the ceremony. Everyone is saying go wide, but I shot a graduation last year with a crop sensor and a tight lens. Yeah, indoor group shots in the seats are rough, but when she walks across that stage from fifty feet away, a 28mm is gonna leave her looking like a tiny speck in the frame even if you crop in later. The 1.8 aperture saved me when the lighting inside the auditorium turned out to be trash. Just sit near the aisle so you can back up if needed.
