Ive been shooting with DSLRs for like ten years now so Im pretty comfortable with all the exposure triangle stuff, but I finally caved and bought a Canon EOS R50 body-only since my old Rebel gave out last month. Problem is, none of my old glass fits right without some janky adapter that ruins the weight balance. Im heading to Japan in about three weeks for a two-week trip mostly doing street photography and some casual food shots at night. I really wanna keep the setup lightweight cause Ill be walking all day. My budget is around 400 bucks max right now. Should I just grab the RF-S 18-45mm kit lens used, or is there a cheap prime that wont blow my budget?

Congrats on the R50 upgrade! For a Japan street trip on a 400 dollar budget, skip the kit lens and grab a prime for low-light food shots.
- Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM (ultra compact, great for night food)
- Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM (dirt cheap used if you really need zoom) The nifty fifty will blow away kit glass for street stuff tbh.
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
