Should I grab the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary or try to find a deal on a used Canon 100-400mm II for my 90D? Im heading to Yellowstone in like eight days and Im freaking out because my current zoom is totally broken. Ive got about $1100 max and I really need that extra reach for wolves but Im worried the Sigma might be too heavy to hike with all day. The Canon is legendary but even used its pushing my budget and 400mm might be too short even with the crop sensor... ugh. Is the Tamron G2 actually better or should I just stick with the Sigma? Really need to pull the trigger tonight to get shipping in time...

Been thinking about this for a bit. Over the years, I've tried many different setups for wildlife, and in my experience, reliability in the field trumps extra focal length every time. I once had a lens autofocus fail on a trip to Glacier and it basically ruined the week. Here is what I would consider before you buy tonight:
- Look for a used Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM from a site with overnight shipping. The weather sealing and build quality are lifesavers in Yellowstone weather.
- If you go with the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary, buy a good monopod. Hiking with that beast all day gets exhausting real fast, trust me.
- Don't discount renting. If the budget is tight, renting the Canon for a week is way cheaper and keeps you safe.
