Honestly I'm so over the 24-50mm kit lens that came with my R8 its literally driving me crazy at this point. I've been trying to get those nice blurry backgrounds for some family portraits I'm doing at a park in Seattle next Saturday but everything just looks so flat and the autofocus is hunting like crazy in the shade. I need something fast and sharp because this zoom is just not cutting it for professional looking shots.

I have about $600 to spend and i need to order it like tonight to get it here in time. Should I just grab the 85mm f2 or is the 50mm 1.8 actually good enough for what I need? I'm honestly panicking a bit...

The Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM offers much better bokeh than the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. The 50 is cheaper and smaller, but 85mm is superior for portraits.
