trying to find something decent before my trip to Seattle next month but man the prices are all over the place. i saw the canon r100 for like 480 bucks with a lens and my logic was it's new so it should be fine but then i read reviews saying the screen doesnt even tilt and the autofocus is kinda mid.

then people keep suggesting the sony a6000 but the ones on ebay are like 450 used which feels insane for a camera that old?? i only got 500 bucks max and i really want something better than my phone for landscape shots. are there any legit bundles or maybe a specific site that has actual deals right now because i feel like im going in circles...

Building on the earlier suggestion, yeah skip the R100. I actually started my photography journey years ago with a micro four thirds setup because I wanted something cheap and light for hiking. I ended up grabbing a used Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 with 12-32mm Lens for like 400 bucks and it absolutely blew me away! Took it on a trip to the Pacific Northwest and the shots were incredible. Here is why I think you should look at it instead of the Sony:

  • The dual image stabilization is insane for low light and gloomy rainy days.
  • The tilting touchscreen is perfect for weird angles.
  • Tons of cheap, tiny lenses available on the used market. Honestly, it feels way more premium than the cheap plastic R100. MPB or KEH usually have them in stock with a warranty, so you don't have to risk eBay.

Agreed on avoiding the R100. Look at a used Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II for cheap stabilization, or Canon EOS M50 which has a great touchscreen but fewer lens options.

Yeah you are spot on about the R100. The fixed screen is super annoying for low angle landscape shots, and the autofocus uses older contrast detect tech that hunts a lot. I have been using a refurbished setup from Canon's official store and honestly, it works so well. You can currently grab the refurbished Canon EOS R50 with RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM for right around $480. I was incredibly satisfied with this purchase because it fixes all the R100 complaints. You get a fully articulating touchscreen and the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II which tracks subjects perfectly. The 24.2MP APS-C sensor gives you tons of detail for Seattle scenery. Another route is buying used from a reputable site like MPB. I picked up a used Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III with 14-42mm EZ Lens for about $400 for my sister and we have zero complaints. The 5-axis in-body stabilization is a lifesaver for handheld shots when the Seattle weather gets dark and gloomy. Let me know if you want me to track down the exact listing pages for you, I can easily drop them here.
