So Prime Day is literally happening right now and I feel like I'm totally missing out because everyone says this is the time to buy electronics but I am so incredibly lost. My younger sister is graduating in two weeks and I really want to get her a real camera because she's always using her phone and it's fine but she keeps saying she wants to be a real photographer one day. I keep seeing Canon stuff popping up on my Amazon feed but I don't know if they are actually good deals or just marketing fluff to get me to click.
I saw one that was like a Rebel T7? Or maybe it was a T100? I honestly can't tell the difference between them at all and I feel so dumb looking at the specs. My logic was that if it has a higher number it must be better but then I saw some that had EOS in the name and now I'm just spiraling. I have about $550 saved up from my summer job but if I need to spend more to get something that actually works for a beginner I might be able to stretch it to $600 but I'm really pushing it.
I tried looking at the deals page and there are all these bundles with tripods and bags and like 5 different lenses and it seems like a great deal for the price but then I read a comment on a random site saying those bundles are garbage? Why would they sell them if they're garbage? I'm just really stressed because the timer on the deal says it ends in a few hours and I don't want to buy a paperweight. Are any of these actually worth it right now or am I better off just waiting for another sale? I live in a really small town so I can't just go to a camera store and ask someone and the internet is just a lot of people arguing about megapixels and sensors which I dont even understand anyway. Is there a specific Canon DSLR I should look for that is actually a steal today or am I just looking at the same price they usually are? I am so sorry if this is a basic question I just really dont want to mess this up for her...
Dont panic you are literally doing the best thing ever for your sister! I was in your shoes last year and honestly buying a camera is a total rush once you get it. My big tip is to stay far away from those massive bundles with like 20 items... people arent lying when they say those are mostly filler junk that youll never use. You are way better off just getting the Canon EOS Rebel T7 with 18-55mm Lens on its own. It is a fantastic starter camera and fits your budget perfectly! If you can stretch to $600 definitely check if the Canon EOS R100 Mirrorless Camera with 18-45mm Lens is on sale today tho. Its newer and way more portable for a student. She is gonna be so stoked to start her photography journey!
