So Ive finally decided to retire my 5D Mark IV after like seven years of solid service and make the jump to the R6 Mark II. Ive been eyeing the specs for months and that dual pixel CMOS AF II is calling my name for the wedding season this year. The thing is, Ive been checking the usual spots like B&H and Adorama and the prices are just hovering around the $2499 mark which feels a bit steep since I know the summer sales are usually just around the corner. I did see some refurbished stuff on the Canon USA site but they sell out so fast its actually insane. I missed one last week by like ten minutes.

My requirements:

  • Budget: $2200 max for the body (trying to save some for an RF 24-70)
  • Location: US based shipping
  • Timing: Need it by mid-June for a big gig
  • Condition: New or Canon Refurbished preferred, not sure I trust generic eBay sellers for a body this expensive

Has anyone seen any unadvertised bundles or maybe a discount code floating around? I heard some people were getting loyalty discounts by calling Canon directly if they had an old serial number but I dont know if that still works for the Mark II. Is there a specific day of the week the refurbished store usually restocks? Just trying to find the best bang for my buck before I drop two grand...

Quick reply while I have a sec between edits... I was in your exact same boat a few months back trying to ditch my old DSLR. I finally snagged my Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera through the refurbished site and honestly, I've been so happy with it. The box was just plain white but the camera itself was pristine and the shutter count was basically zero. The real trick to the refurb store is checking on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings around 9 or 10 AM Eastern. That's usually when they dump the new stock. I used a page monitor extension on my browser to alert me the second the 'Add to Cart' button appeared because like you said, those deals vanish in minutes. I'm so satisfied with how it turned out because I managed to snag it for way under your $2200 limit, which actually left me enough cash for the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R to keep using my old glass for now. If the refurb site is a bust, check if you qualify for the B&H Edu program or if you know a student or teacher who can help you out. The discount on the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Body there is usually pretty significant and it stays in stock way longer than the refurbished ones. I've also had luck just calling Adorama and asking if they have any 'open box' units that haven't been listed on the site yet. Sometimes you get lucky and find a return that someone just didn't like the feel of, and you still get the full manufacturer warranty which is a huge peace of mind for weddings.

Jumping in here to say I actually disagree that its gonna be such a huge struggle. @Reply #1 - good point! but you can definitely snag a Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera Body for under 2200 if you use a site like Greentoe. It basically lets you put in a blind bid to authorized dealers and they usually bite on 2100 or 2150 pretty quickly. Honestly ive been so satisfied with mine... the 40 fps electronic shutter is overkill but the 24.2MP sensor has much better dynamic range and readout speed than your old 5D IV. If you want the Canon refurb shop, they usually restock Tuesday through Thursday mornings around 10 AM EST. I have had no complaints with the autofocus sticking to subjects like glue even in dim wedding venues. It works well and should fit your budget if you time it right.

Honestly, hitting that 2200 mark for a brand new Canon EOS R6 Mark II Body is gonna be a real challenge right now because Canon is pretty stingy with those deeper discounts until later in the year. You might want to consider checking the Canon Loyalty Program before you do anything else. I have used it several times for my own setups and it is basically a lifesaver for wedding pros trying to upgrade. You just call their main support line, give them the serial for your old 5D, and they can usually shave a good chunk off the price of a refurb or sometimes even a new unit. Just be careful tho, because the stock for the mirrorless bodies is always hit or miss. Since you need this by mid-June, make sure to stalk the refurb site specifically on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings around 9 or 10 AM EST. That is usually when the inventory refreshes and the good stuff pops up. I would suggest avoiding those random discount sites that look too good to be true... if you see a price way below two grand, it is likely a gray market item without a US warranty. For a wedding shooter, that is a huge risk you dont want to take. I have seen guys lose their whole kit because they tried to save pennies on a body that died mid-ceremony. Just go with any professional zoom from Canon for your glass. Honestly, you cant go wrong with their glass, so just get whatever fits your budget from their authorized list. Better to have the peace of mind with a solid brand you trust than to save a few bucks and get burned by a generic seller.

Saw this earlier but just now getting a chance to weigh in. Since you are shooting weddings, reliability is everything and I totally get why you wouldnt trust a random person on eBay for a main body. Because the refurb store is such a bloodbath, you might wanna look into the educational discounts which people always forget about.

  • Try the B&H Edu Advantage program if you have a .edu email or know someone who does.
  • Check the Adorama Creators program too because they often have private discounts on the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera Body.
  • Keep an eye on the Canon EOS R6 Mark II with RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM bundle. Sometimes the kit goes on sale for a price that makes the body effectively way cheaper if you just sell the lens afterward. I have done that a bunch of times to get my gear costs down. Selling the kit lens for a fair price usually puts the Canon EOS R6 Mark II Mirrorless Camera well under your 2200 limit while keeping the full Canon warranty. It basically guarantees you wont be stuck with a brick if something goes sideways during a big gig. Then you can put the leftover cash toward the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8 L IS USM which you are gonna love for those dimly lit receptions.
