I'm heading to my sister's wedding in June and I really want to get into photography before then because my iPhone 14 just doesnt cut it for that blurry background look anymore. I have a hard limit of $1000 because I'm also trying to save for a trip to Seattle later this year and cant really justify spending more than that on a hobby yet. I spent all of yesterday looking at the Sony a6400 and the Canon R50. The Sony seems really popular for beginners but the screen looks kinda low res and people say the menu is a nightmare to navigate which makes me nervous. Then I saw the Canon but then I read that the lens selection for their crop sensors is really limited compared to Sony?? I'm just feeling a bit lost with all the specs honestly.
I want something thats good for street stuff and maybe some video here and there when we're out. Are there any specific bundles or sites I should be checking for deals this month? I looked at B&H and Adorama but the prices seem to jump around a lot. Maybe I should look at used stuff but I'm worried about getting a lemon from eBay or something. Are there any good mirrorless camera deals under $1000 right now?
honestly you might want to consider the sony route just for the lens ecosystem alone. while the menus on the Sony a6400 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera are definitely clunky, you have way more affordable options for that blurry background look compared to canon right now. make sure to look at third party glass like the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens because that will actually give you those pro wedding shots you're after. be careful buying brand new right now tho... b&h prices fluctuate a ton. i would suggest checking out mpb or keh for used gear instead of ebay. they have actual technicians inspect everything so you wont get a lemon.
- check for a used Fujifilm X-S10 Mirrorless Camera with IBIS for better video stabilization
- look at the canon refurbished site for a Canon EOS R10 24.2MP Mirrorless Camera its a lot of data to digest but stick with it. let me know if you need help comparing sensor readouts or bitrates!
