So Im finally biting the bullet and upgrading my kit. Shooting mostly portraits and some local events around Chicago and my trusty kit lens is just not cutting it anymore in low light. Been eyeing the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E-mount cause ive heard amazing things about the sharpness and build quality without spending Sony G-Master money.
I was looking at price history stuff online and some forums say Black Friday deals on Sigma glass are usually pretty decent like maybe 100 or 150 bucks off, but other people swear they literally never drop the price on this specific lens because demand is always too high. Idk who to believe at this point. Im working with a strict budget of around 1k to 1200 max including tax, and I really need the lens ready before my cousins destination wedding in mid-December so I have time to practice with it.
Heres what I need it to do:
- handle dim indoor reception lighting without destroying my ISO
- stay reasonably balanced on my A7iii body for long shooting days
- fit inside my current peak design sling bag
Is it actually worth waiting another month and crossing my fingers for a tiny discount, or should I just buy it used right now or brand new today and stop stressing over fifty bucks? What do you guys think?
Honestly id just grab it now especially with that mid-December wedding coming up. In my experience waiting around a whole month for a measly hundred bucks off isnt worth the shipping stress or risking it being out of stock right before a big shoot. Plus you really want a couple weeks to get used to the weight on your Sony Alpha 7 III since glass like the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art Sony E is chunkier than a basic kit lens. I shoot events all the time and having time to test low light focus in dim venues is crucial. Grab it used in mint condition or brand new today and save yourself the gray hairs. You wont regret it.
