What is actually a decent budget portrait lens for Fuji X-mount? Im honestly so sick of the kit lens not giving me that nice blurry background and its driving me crazy. I have about 300 bucks to spend and need something for a family shoot in two weeks. Has anyone tried the Viltrox ones?
Honestly, I get your frustration. The kit lens is fine for landscapes, but it just cant separate a subject from the background like you want. I tried the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 II X-Mount and unfortunately had some focus hunting issues in lower light, which was not as good as I expected for a family shoot.
- Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 X-Mount is super sharp and fits your budget, tho the build quality feels a bit plasticky.
- Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary X-Mount is way better imo. The autofocus is snappy and the sharpness wide open is just insane for the price. Save your sanity and skip the 85mm if you dont have a ton of space to move back. The 56mm is the sweet spot for portraits anyway. Just grab the Sigma and you wont regret it.
If you really want that background blur without breaking the bank, the TTArtisan 56mm f/1.4 AF is honestly a solid contender. I used it for some outdoor portraits last summer and the results were surprisingly sharp for the price. The autofocus can be a bit jittery compared to Fuji glass, but it gets the job done for family shoots if you arent rushing too much. Just be careful with the aperture wide open, it can get a little soft around the edges, but that actually looks kind of dreamy for portraits anyway. Its a fun lens that wont hurt your wallet before the shoot. Definitely give it a look if you want something lightweight that keeps your kit compact.
Re: Honestly, I get your frustration. The kit lens... that lack of separation is a total vibe killer. Before I suggest anything, are you shooting full body shots or just tight headshots for this family session? If you want a budget king, check out the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary. It is sharper than almost anything at this price point and gives creamy bokeh.
- Way smaller than the Viltrox
- Faster aperture for portraits
- Super reliable autofocus
