I just picked up a Fujifilm X-S20 mainly for video and vlogging, and I’m stuck on what lens makes the most sense. I’ll be filming handheld at arm’s length, plus some walk-and-talk stuff and indoor clips in not-so-great lighting. I’d love something with smooth autofocus for video, minimal focus breathing, and stabilization (or at least something that pairs well with the X-S20’s IBIS). Size/weight matters since it’ll be on a small grip, and my budget is around $400–$700. What lens would you recommend for the X-S20 for vlogging/video, and why?

Coming back to this — I tried Fujifilm XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ (~$150–$250 used) vs Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR (~$450–$650 used): 15-45 tiny but PZ annoyed me; 10-24 smoother, heavier tho (i had issues w price lol).

+1 to what was said earlier — a small stabilized wide zoom is basically the safest move. I’d look at:
- Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR: wide enough for arm’s length, OIS + IBIS plays nice, decent breathing.
- Fujifilm XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ: cheaper/smaller, power zoom for video… AF is ok, but build is meh.
- Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR: more range, but kinda chunky on a tiny grip. Anyway… if you’re mostly indoor vlog, I’d pick the 10-24.

Yo! Been thinking about this for a bit and honestly, if you want total reliability for those indoor clips, you gotta look at native Fuji glass! I totally love the peace of mind you get with their build quality.

  • Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR: This is the gold standard for safety! The OIS combined with the X-S20 IBIS is absolutely amazing for keeping things steady during a walk-and-talk. It is super reliable.
  • Fujinon XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR: I love how tiny and safe this feels on a small grip! It is weather sealed too so you dont have to baby it if the weather gets weird while you are out vlogging. Fantastic little lens! Speaking of being careful, I actually spent all morning in the garage trying to DIY a custom camera rig using some old PVC pipes and a heat gun. It looks totally insane and honestly probably isnt the safest thing I have ever built lol, but I love tinkering with stuff like that instead of buying expensive cages. My wife thinks I am gonna drop the whole setup but hey, that is the DIY life! Anyway, those two lenses are definitely the way to go for stability and quality. But yeah, stick with the native stuff if you want it to just work every time.

For your situation, yeah totally agree—go with a small, stabilized wide zoom from Fujifilm; honestly it’s the safest bet for arm’s-length + walk-and-talk, and keep AF in continuous with face/eye on for smoother pulls!

Any updates on this?

Glad people are following this cause I actually have a different take. I've been using the Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X for a few months now and I am incredibly satisfied with how it handles on the X-S20. It hits that sweet spot for price and performance for a few reasons:

  • The f/2.8 aperture is huge for those indoor shots where lighting is trash. It makes a noticeable difference over the f/4 zooms.
  • Its way smaller than the Fuji 10-24mm, so it feels much more balanced on a small vlogging grip like yours.
  • AF is fast and I havent noticed any annoying focus breathing during my walk-and-talks. Seriously, dont worry too much about the lack of OIS. The IBIS in the X-S20 is more than enough at 10mm or 12mm to keep things steady. Ngl, the image quality you get for around $600 is hard to beat for a dedicated video setup. No complaints from my end so far.

For your situation, wide + OIS is kinda the “safety” move cuz it keeps handheld shake + ruined takes to a minimum. I’d pick:
- Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR: most reliable vlog range, OIS+IBIS is steady, breathing is ok.
- Fujifilm XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR: brighter indoors + good AF, but not as wide.
- Fujifilm XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ: tiny/cheap, but the PZ drove me nuts unfortunately.
