I just picked up a Fujifilm X-S20 mainly for video and casual vlogging, and I’m stuck on what lens makes the most sense as a “do-it-all” option. I’ll be filming handheld, talking-to-camera, and also grabbing some B-roll while walking around (mostly indoors at home and outside in daylight). I’m trying to avoid that super shaky look, so stabilization matters, and I’d also like decent autofocus for face/eye tracking so I’m not constantly refocusing.
A few specifics: I usually shoot 4K, I’m often at arm’s length with the camera on a small grip, and I’d love a focal length that’s wide enough so my face isn’t cropped but not so wide that it looks weird/distorted. Low-light performance is also a concern since my room lighting isn’t amazing.
Budget is around $500–$800 if it’s really worth it (but cheaper is great). What lens would you recommend for the X-S20 for video + vlogging, and why—especially in terms of stabilization, focal length, and low-light use?
For your situation, I’d grab Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS as the do-it-all… I’ve vlogged with it and it’s honestly a killer combo on Fuji. - OIS helps a ton handheld (less jelly than relying on IBIS alone)
- 18mm is wide enough at arm’s length without mega distortion
- AF is solid, and the aperture is decent indoors If you want wider + brighter, Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR is amazing but no OIS so it’s shakier. gl!
Quick question before I steer you: are you using the X-S20’s digital IS/gyro stabilization, or just IBIS + lens OIS? And do you care about a flip-out mic on the hot shoe (some lenses make mic placement annoying), right? If you want *minimum shake* + easy vlogging framing, I’d honestly look at Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR or (cheaper/low-light) Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X. The 10-24’s OIS is fantastic for walking B-roll, while the Sigma’s f/1.4 saves you indoors but you’ll lean harder on IBIS. What’s your typical arm’s-length distance—like 18 inches or more?
In my experience over the years, if you really want that rock-solid stabilization, you gotta stick with native glass like the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR. People underestimate how much the proprietary communication between a Fuji lens and a Fuji body helps with those micro-jitters. I've tried many third-party options and they are great for stills, but for walking video, that OIS + IBIS handshake is just safer and more reliable. Honestly, it reminds me of when I used to haul around a massive gimbal and a heavy DSLR... my poor back still hasnt recovered from those 12-hour wedding shoots back in the day. I used to think I needed every piece of gear in the bag to look professional, now I just want one lens and a decent cup of coffee to get through the edit. I actually spent twenty minutes this morning looking for my favorite ceramic mug instead of actually starting my work. Anyway, stick to native if you want the smoothest footage without thinking about it too much. But yeah.
> “do-it-all… handheld… arm’s length… stabilization matters… low-light… not too wide/distorted” For your situation, I’d suggest **Option A vs B vs C** like this: **A) Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS** — Pros: safest “reliable” pick for shake since OIS + IBIS plays nice, AF is pretty solid, and 18mm is usually wide enough for arm’s length. Cons: indoors that f/4 end gets noisy fast, so you’ll lean on ISO or lights. **B) Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR** — Pros: MOST stable-feeling handheld IMO (big OIS), super flexible range for b-roll, and WR is nice if you’re outside a lot. Cons: f/4 everywhere… low light is the weak spot. **C) Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR (or the f/2 version)** — Pros: low light and background separation are waaay better, great for talking head. Cons: no OIS, so for walking vlog it can get “micro-jittery” unless ur IBIS/gyro is dialed. Safety-first take: if you’re literally walking + talking, I’d pick **A or B (OIS)** and add a small light later. If you mostly talk-to-cam indoors, **C** wins. What arm length / mic setup are you using?

^ This. Also, totally backing the Sigma mention because it is a total beast for vlogging and the autofocus is crazy fast on the X-S20! I love how light it is for long handheld sessions, honestly saves my wrist. Just a couple quick things to watch out for with compatibility and setup:
- Check for firmware updates immediately. Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X occasionally needs a quick patch to play perfectly with Fuji face tracking, especially when you are shooting in 4K.
- Keep an eye on that crop factor. If you turn on the digital image stabilization or the boost mode on your X-S20, that 10mm starts looking more like 13mm. If you start with an 18mm lens, you basically end up with a giant shot of your nose lol. If you really need that extra smoothness and dont mind the weight, Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f4 R OIS WR is amazing because the OIS stacks with the IBIS, but for low light the Sigma f/2.8 is just way better for the price!

Not to disagree, but I’d skip the 18-55 if low light + arm’s-length talking is your main thing. Background: wide-ish + bright aperture matters more than extra zoom for vlogging. Why: f/2 helps ISO a ton indoors, and 16mm is usually not too wierd-looking on APS-C. Solution: Fujifilm XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR + rely on X-S20 IBIS (add a tiny tripod grip). Cheaper, lighter, pretty solid AF… just watch the corners.
Honestly I just went through this exact same struggle and finally landed on the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X. It is absolutely amazing! I was worried about 18mm being too tight for vlogging once you turn on the digital stabilization (that crop is real), but having that 10mm wide end gives you so much breathing room. I love it because the f/2.8 constant aperture is a lifesaver for my indoor shots where the lighting is trash. The AF is lightning fast too. Its super tiny and light, so my arm doesnt get tired after five minutes of filming. Seriously, if you can swing the $600 or so, just get it. It transformed my workflow because I dont have to worry about framing or noise nearly as much now!
Would love to know this too
