So I just got the Fuji XT5 because everyone said it takes amazing pictures and I honestly just loved how the silver one looked but man I am totally lost with all these numbers on the lenses. I bought just the body part by itself because it was on sale at a local shop here in Seattle but now I realized I cant actually take any photos without buying a separate glass piece lol. I really just want one lens that can stay on the camera all the time because I hate the idea of carrying a big heavy bag or having to swap things out while I am walking around.
Here is what I am looking for:
- budget is around 600 or 700 dollars max if possible
- use case is mostly pictures of my golden retriever and then stuff like buildings or food when we go to Italy in a few weeks
- I want it to be kinda light so my neck doesnt hurt
I am sorry if this is a really basic question but I keep seeing words like prime and focal length and my head is spinning. Someone told me a prime lens doesnt even zoom which sounds really inconvenient? But then people say the zoom lenses are heavy. Is there something in the middle that just works for everything? I just want my photos to look crisp without having to think too much about it...
> Is there something in the middle that just works for everything? I just want my photos to look crisp without having to think too much about it... Congrats on the X-T5, its a beast! In my experience, you should grab the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X. Its incredibly light, fits your budget perfectly, and the constant f/2.8 is killer for low light food shots in Italy. I have tried tons of glass over the years and this is honestly the best value for a one-lens setup.
Over the years Ive found MPB is a godsend for used gear. Snag a Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS there; it has built-in stabilization which physically moves glass to cancel out shaky hands.
^ This. Also, that f/2.8 is perfect for blurry dog portraits. If you want a bit more reach for those Italy buildings tho, maybe look at the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR. Technical stuff to know:
- The Sigma is way lighter for your neck.
- The Fuji has better weather sealing for rain. Both are great, but the Sigma is definitely the weight king.
100% agree
ugh i am in the exact same boat as you... i just picked up the silver xt5 because it looked so retro and cool but then i spent like three days staring at charts trying to figure out what a millimeter even means in real life. i actually made the mistake of listening to a guy at a shop who tried to sell me this massive professional lens that weighed more than the camera itself... it was a total disaster. i took it out for a test run and my neck was killing me after twenty minutes. honestly just be careful about the weight because if it is too heavy you are just gonna end up leaving it at home and that is such a waste of money. i am so happy i didnt go for one of those huge fuji red badge lenses everyone talks about because they look like bricks. also watch out for getting too many cheap lenses off random sites... i tried a super cheap one from a different brand and the autofocus was so loud it kept scaring my dog lol. just sticking to one thing that works is definitely the way to go for travel.
TIL! Thanks for sharing
For your Fujifilm X-T5, finding the right "all-around" lens means balancing its demanding 40MP sensor with the need for versatility.
If you want a single, definitive answer: the newly released Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II is the best all-around lens for the X-T5. It's a professional-grade zoom that is the first to truly match the camera's resolution without compromise, all in a remarkably compact package .
However, "best" depends on your specific priorities.
