What is the best budget portrait lens for Fuji X-mount that wont break the bank? Ive been shooting Fuji for five years and usually stick to the native glass but my 56mm f1.2 just bricked itself and I have a family portrait session in the park next Sunday. Im totally freaking out because I cant drop a grand on a replacement right now. Ive got maybe $350 tops. Is the Viltrox 85mm actually sharp enough or should I look at the Sigma 56mm? Ive never really used third-party lenses because I was worried about the AF speed but Im desperate. Need something with decent bokeh that wont hunt in backlight...
> my 56mm f1.2 just bricked itself I love the Fujifilm XC 35mm f2 for absolute reliability! Native glass ensures better firmware integration and AF-C consistency. I've returned to native optics recently. Quick tip: keep your contacts clean.
In my experience, you should consider these:
- Sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary has better AF.
- Viltrox 85mm f1.8 II STM offers more compression. Sigma's better in backlight tbh.
Just saw this and you've gotta check out these sleeper hits!
- Fujifilm XF 50mm f2 R WR is insanely sharp and the stepper motor is way faster than the old 56mm!
- TTArtisan 56mm f1.8 AF Fujifilm X-Mount is a total steal with surprisingly good optics. The contrast on that 50mm is just fantastic for park sessions! You wont miss the f1.2 aperture as much as you think!
> Sigma 56mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary has better AF. Building on that suggestion, that Sigma is an absolute beast! Its MTF charts are incredible for the price. If you want something even cheaper, the Viltrox 56mm f1.4 AF is amazing too. It has a physical aperture ring which I love! Also, check out the TTArtisan 56mm f1.8 AF if money is super tight... it uses ED glass to control fringing and its snappy tbh!
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
