Ive been staring at lens specs for three hours and my head is spinning. I just got the X-S20 and I need a telephoto for my daughters soccer games next month but my budget is strictly under $400. I was looking at the XC 50-230mm because its super cheap and light but people say the aperture is terrible for anything but bright sun.
Then I saw a used XF 55-200mm for like $380 and my logic was it has better build and faster focus but then I lose that extra reach at the end? Ugh. Im torn between the cheap plastic one or a beat up pro-ish one. Which one is actually gonna get me sharp shots of a running kid? I cant tell if the OIS on the XC is enough for the slower glass...
Unfortunately, the Fujifilm XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS II is a letdown for sports. I had issues with the slow stepping motor missing focus on moving kids constantly. It's just not as good as expected. Grab the used Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS because those dual linear motors are actually essential for tracking soccer. The reach difference is honestly negligible compared to the faster autofocus.
