sorry if this is a dumb question but im completely lost when it comes to lenses. i just bought a fujifilm x-s10 mostly to shoot videos of my cats and some travel vlogs around chicago when the weather gets nice. my budget is around 500 bucks max since im just starting out.
heres what im looking for:
- something not too heavy cause my wrists hurt easily
- good enough for low light since my apartment is kinda dark
- easy to use for a total beginner
what lens should i actually buy for this thing...
Congrats on the new camera! For your budget and wrist pain, you gotta check out the Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 R WR. Its super tiny and lightweight, making it amazing for travel. If you need more light for those dark indoor cat videos, grab the Fujifilm XC 35mm f2. Both are crazy sharp and super easy for beginners to use. Let me know if you want help finding a used one!
In my experience shooting video on the X-S10, you want something light with a bright aperture for those dim apartments. Over the years I've tried many setups, and this one hits all your marks without hurting your wrists.
- Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary around $300, super sharp in low light
- Fujifilm XF 35mm f2 R WR roughly $399, weather resistant for Chicago walks Grab one of these and you wont regret it.
tl;dr: i once spent three days researching the wrong gear and dropped my camera in a fountain. oh man this whole thread gives me flashbacks. reminds me of when my cousin decided he was gonna film his cat and bought some random lens online without checking the mount type first. turned into a whole ordeal involving international shipping returns and a very confused cat staring at an empty box for a week. wild times.
