What is actually the absolute best lens for street photography on the Fujifilm X-T5 right now? Im so pumped because I finally upgraded from my old beat-up X-T2 last week and Im heading to Chicago next month for a whole week of just wandering around downtown taking candid shots, but I am completely paralyzed by lens choices. I spent like three hours on Reddit last night reading old threads and checking out YouTube reviews. Half the internet swears by the classic Fujinon XF 23mm f/2 because it gives you that traditional 35mm equivalent field of view and focuses super fast, but then I read a bunch of forum posts saying the newer 27mm f/2.8 pancake is better if you want to keep the whole setup pocketable and low-profile. But wait, what about the Sigma 23mm f/1.4? People keep raving about the sharpness and background blur, though honestly it looks kinda chunky compared to the Fuji pancake. My budget is around 500 to 700 bucks max since I just dropped a ton of cash on the body itself. I mostly like shooting people from fairly close up, nothing too creepy just catching candid moments in crowds, coffee shops, and train stations as the sun goes down. Do I go for ultimate compactness with the 27mm, or do I sacrifice size for that extra light-gathering power and weather resistance of the 23mm f/2? If anyone has actually used these specific combos on the 40-megapixel sensor of the X-T5, let me know if the older lenses hold up resolution-wise because Ive heard that sensor is super unforgiving...

Honestly, grab the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 23mm F2 R WR right now. The weather resistance is a lifesaver for Chicago wind and random drizzle, plus autofocus is crazy snappy on the new sensor. Skip the pancake if you want to shoot at sunset since f/2 gives you that extra breathing room when light drops. Have an amazing trip!
