I'm grabbing a lens for my sisters wedding in June. I saw the 56mm f1.2 is the goat for bokeh but then I read the 50mm f2 is way faster for af? My logic was the 1.2 would be better for the look but now I'm worried about missing shots... which one actually works better on the X-S20?

I have been very satisfied using the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 50mm f/2 R WR on my X-S20 for event work lately. It is a much more budget-friendly solution that doesnt compromise on technical results.

  • Quick stepping motor for tracking
  • Highly portable form factor
  • Sharp even wide open The price difference is huge and you wont miss the f1.2 look when your shots are actually in focus.

Ive been really satisfied with the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X on my X-S20. I went through a whole phase of testing different glass for portraits and this one hits the sweet spot for me... AF is super snappy compared to the old 1.2 lenses. Quick tip: keep your power management set to 'Boost' mode to maximize the AF motors speed during the ceremony.

The Viltrox AF 75mm f1.2 Pro X-Mount is a decent option. It works well on the X-S20 and is reliable enough for weddings without the high Fuji price tag.

Building on the earlier suggestion, I'd ask first if you are the lead photographer or just a guest? It makes a huge difference in how much risk you should take with gear. For a wedding, I prioritize reliability above everything else. I've been very satisfied with the Fujifilm XF 56mm f1.2 R WR because it fixes the focus hunting issues the older version had. Basically, here is why I go for the newer glass despite the price:

  • The autofocus motor is much more dependable for people walking
  • Weather sealing is a huge peace of mind for outdoor events
  • Its sharp enough that you wont stress about missing focus Tbh, if you're worried about the 56mm being too tight, the Fujifilm XF 33mm f1.4 R LM WR is another rock-solid choice that works well and never misses. Its pricey but the hit rate is way higher for candid shots...
