I just grabbed an X-T4 because I'm finally starting to take some paid portrait gigs after years of casual street photography. My sister's wedding is in October and I'm super stoked but honestly I'm totally stuck on which glass to bring for those creamy shots. I've always used the 23mm f2 but that's not gonna cut it for tight headshots.
I keep looking at the 56mm f1.2 vs the 50mm f1 but that thing is massive and over my $900 budget. Or maybe the 90mm? I need that insane bokeh but still want it sharp. Which prime do you guys think actually handles the best on the T4 for pro portraits?
Honestly, for paid gigs you need reliability above all else! I love the T4 and have had amazing results with these lenses:
- Fujifilm Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 R: This is my favorite for pro portraits. The bokeh is fantastic and it fits your budget!
- Fujifilm Fujinon XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR: This lens is incredibly sharp. Its just a bit long for tight spaces tho. The 56mm is the safest bet!
Jumping in, im really satisfied with these:
- Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for snappy AF.
- Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 AF Pro because weather sealing adds safety for outdoor weddings.
Im a total newbie and honestly terrified of missing focus during weddings.
- I think there are third-party options?
- Not sure if their autofocus motors can keep up tho...
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.
Coming back to this, I totally agree with mnmn1 that third party lenses are basically where the value is at right now! Honestly, you dont need to drop $900 to get amazing shots at your sisters wedding. Check these out:
- Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 X is incredibly light and the AF is snappy. Its a total sleeper lens and way cheaper than the Fuji glass.
- Viltrox AF 85mm f/1.8 II XF is fantastic for that compression you want in portraits. It rivals lenses double the price, ngl. Both of these will leave plenty of cash in your pocket for a good strobe or extra cards. Go for the Samyang if you want something tiny, or the Viltrox if you love that classic 85mm look... you wont regret it!
