I need to decide which prime is the absolute best for street on my X-Pro3 before I head to Tokyo this weekend because I'm literally panicking. I'm torn between the XF 23mm f2 and the older XF 35mm f1.4 and I cant make up my mind which one to pull the trigger on. I've got a budget of about $600 for a used copy so that fits both but man its a hard call and I have zero time left to browse reviews.
The 23mm seems like the smart choice because its weather resistant and focus is snappy as hell which is great if it rains but I keep hearing people rave about the magic and character of the 35mm 1.4 even if it is a bit loud and clunky. I'm worried the 23mm is gonna feel a bit too wide and I'll end up with too much clutter in my shots but then the 35mm might be too tight for those narrow Shibuya alleys. Also since I'm using the X-Pro3 I really want something that doesn't block the OVF too much—the 23mm fits the frame lines better right? I thought about the 27mm pancake too for the size but the f2.8 aperture scares me for night shooting in Shinjuku.
I'm leaving in three days so I gotta order this tonight to get it delivered in time... which one would you guys grab if you were in my shoes?
Unfortunately, my 35mm 1.4 failed me in the rain once, super disappointing. Just grab a used Fujifilm XF 23mm f2 R WR and keep the change for some good ramen.
