I just got my first real camera which is an X-T30 II because everyone said Fuji is the best for colors but I am totally lost. I want to do street photography when I go to London next weekend but the lens that came with it is so big and I keep hearing that prime lenses are better for this? I dont even know what that means really lol. Does that mean it doesnt zoom?
I have like $300 left in my budget and I really dont want to mess this up or look like a weirdo with a huge lens. Is there one that is small and good for a beginner who has no idea what they are doing? I'm so nervous I'll buy the wrong thing...
Yeah, a prime lens means it has a fixed focal length, so no zooming. It forces you to move around more, which is actually better for learning. I would suggest being careful with your choice though. You might want to consider the weight and how fast the autofocus is for street work since things move fast in London. Make sure to look for:
- Anything from the Fujifilm compact prime lineup.
- A focal length that mimics what the human eye sees.
- A lens with a physical aperture ring for quicker adjustments. Just get any compact prime from Fujifilm and you'll be fine. They are much more discreet than zooms and the image quality is usually superior. Be careful about buying third-party glass right away since the communication with the body might not be as seamless for a beginner. Just stick to the brand name for now and you wont regret it.
