i just bought the fujifilm xt5 and i have no idea where to start with lenses sorry if this is a dumb question but i spent all my money on the camera and only have about $700 or $800 left for a lens. Im going to Japan in three weeks and i just want one lens that can do everything like street stuff and maybe some food photos? i was thinking about the 18-55 cause people say its good but then i saw the 16-80 and i got so confused by the numbers.

my logic was more numbers is better right? i just dont want to keep changing lenses while im walking around Tokyo and lose my family. everything feels so complicated and i dont want to mess this up...

Japan is gonna be incredible but dont get too caught up in the zoom range numbers. honestly, more numbers sometimes just means more weight and less sharpness. Since the X-T5 has that high-res sensor, you might want to consider something that can actually keep up without breaking your budget or your back.

  • Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary for Fujifilm X is my top pick for travel. Its tiny, cheap, and the f/2.8 aperture is a lifesaver for food photos in dark izakayas.
  • Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS is the classic choice. be careful to buy it used tho, no point paying full price when so many are on the market. I would suggest avoiding the 16-80 because its kinda bulky for all-day walking and i think it struggles a bit with the X-T5 sensor detail... just my two cents. Stick to something light so you dont lose your family while staring at your settings.
