Ive been shooting L-mount for ages but mostly stuck to primes. Got a trip to Oregon next month and realized I have zero wide glass. I was thinking the 20-60 kit but I need wider, maybe 14mm. Budget is strictly $600 so the Sigma Art is out... any weird off-brand stuff worth looking at?

If you really need to hit that 14mm mark and stay under 600 bucks, your best bet is probably the Panasonic LUMIX S 14-28mm f/4-5.6 Macro. It sits right around your budget and gives you that ultra-wide perspective for Oregons coastlines. Just be careful with that variable aperture though... f/5.6 on the long end is pretty slow if you're shooting in the woods under heavy tree cover. I would suggest keeping an eye on your ISO because it'll spike faster than you think. You mentioned weird off-brand stuff, so you might want to consider the Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Zero-D L-mount. Its manual focus only, which can be a pain if you're moving fast, but the Zero-D claim is mostly legit. I've used their glass before and while the build is like a tank, you gotta make sure to check for flare when the sun is hitting that front element. It can get kinda nasty if you aren't paying attention to your angles. One thing to watch out for with these super wide lenses is the filter situation. Most 14mm glass has a bulbous front element that makes filters a nightmare, but that Panasonic zoom actually takes standard 77mm threads. If you go with a prime like the Sigma 17mm f/4 DG DN Contemporary, you get better build but you lose that extra 3mm of width, which is huge. Honestly, at 14mm, every millimeter feels like a mile. Just make sure you actually need it that wide because composition gets way harder once you go past 20mm... everything in the distance just shrinks to nothing.

Just saw this... are you cool with manual focus? For those Oregon landscapes, AF isnt really a big deal and it opens up better glass for under $600. I have been super satisfied with the Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Zero-D lately and it fits your budget perfectly. Do you strictly need autofocus though? If not, there are a few other off-brand manual primes I can suggest.
