I just got this Panasonic Lumix camera and honestly I have no idea what I am doing yet. I’m going on a trip to Italy next month and I really dont want to carry a bag full of heavy glass around because we are gonna be walking a ton. My budget is around $900 max since the camera was already so expensive. I keep seeing stuff like 24-70 or 28-200 and it just makes my head spin with all the numbers. I just want one lens that can do a bit of everything like landscapes and maybe some close ups of food... what is the best all-around zoom lens for this system that I should get?

You definitely want to keep it light. I would suggest looking at the Panasonic LUMIX S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6. It is surprisingly small and the 20mm wide end is a godsend for those narrow European streets and huge cathedrals. Plus, it focuses really close for food shots. Be careful with the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary for L-Mount tho. While it is great for low light, you might miss the extra width for landscapes. If you can stretch your budget slightly, the Panasonic LUMIX S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 MACRO O.I.S. is basically the king of one lens travel, but just make sure to check if you are okay with the dim aperture when zoomed in.
