What zoom lens is best for a Panasonic S5II if I want to do a bit of everything?
I am sorry if this is dumb but I am so frustrated with all the technical stuff and just want one lens that works. My budget is $800 and I need it before my Colorado trip. Which one do I get...

Honestly, you should just grab the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. and call it a day. I have used this one for a while now and I am very satisfied with how it handles everything from landscapes to close-up shots. Since you are going to Colorado, you will want that extra reach and the image stabilization is rock solid. It stays near your budget if you find a good deal or buy a clean used copy. Why this one works:
- The Dual I.S. works perfectly with your S5II body for steady shots
- f/4 is plenty bright for most daytime hiking
- Macro capability is actually useful for flowers or trail details
- It feels rugged enough for mountain weather I really think this is the safest bet for a one-lens setup. No complaints here after thousands of shots. It just works without any fuss.
