sorry if this is a dumb question but I just got an S5II and have no idea where to start with lenses. I need one lens that can just stay on the camera and do everything for my sisters wedding in July since I'm the designated photographer...
- under $1000 if possible
- good for people and maybe far away stuff
- not too heavy
which one should i get? i’m so confused by all the numbers...
Congrats on the new S5II! You honestly picked a fantastic camera to start with. Since you are shooting a wedding in July, you really want something with a fast aperture to get those professional-looking shots with the blurry backgrounds. I highly recommend looking at the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary L-Mount because it is an absolute beast for the price. Its super light, which is huge when you are running around a wedding for eight hours straight. The f/2.8 means it performs amazing in low light, like during a reception or inside a church. Most zoom lenses get darker when you zoom in, but this one stays at f/2.8 the whole time! It makes everything so much simpler so you can just focus on the moment. 70mm is plenty for those emotional candid shots from across the room too. Feel free to ask if those numbers still feel like gibberish... we all started there!
