honestly if you want max sharpness without blowing 5k on the apo glass, the sigma art line is pretty solid. they deliver clinical results that look great on that sl2 sensor.

ive been really happy with the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art L-Mount for my kids' shots. its heavy but the sharpness is honestly unreal on that sl2 sensor, no complaints here.

TL;DR: The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art L-Mount is technically one of the sharpest tools for around $800. To add to the point above: macro primes often beat standard glass for pure resolution. Its basically perfect for high-res SL2 shots. Sharpness is undeniable. Savings are massive. The f/2.8 limit means less blur than f/1.4, but the results stay clinical and sharp for portraits.

Regarding what #3 said about "TL;DR: The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro..." - i totally agree that those macro lenses are just crazy reliable for picking up every tiny detail!! It actually reminds me so much of when my buddy Dave first got into high-end glass and it turned into this whole ridiculous ordeal at his daughters birthday party last year.

  • Dave refusing to use a flash because he wanted pure sharpness
  • Him literally tripping over a lawn chair trying to get the perfect angle
  • The cake getting eaten before he even dialed in his settings Honestly it was pure chaos but so funny to watch. He was so obsessed with the technical specs that he basically missed the entire party lol. His wife was so mad because she just wanted one decent photo for the gram and he was over there worrying about corner-to-corner resolution and lens breathing while the kids were covered in frosting... what a legend. Just goes to show how gear can really take over your life if youre not careful... anyway i love seeing people dive into the SL2 system!
