What is the best budget zoom lens for a Nikon DSLR right now that wont break the bank? Ive been shooting with primes for years on my D7500 so I know my way around the F-mount system but I just got asked to help shoot my cousins outdoor wedding in Chicago next month and realized I really need some reach. I used to have an old 55-200mm but it broke ages ago and I never replaced it. Looking to spend maybe $250 or $300 max used or new doesnt matter. Is the AF-P 70-300mm still the king for cheap zooms or is there something third party like Tamron I should look at instead? Kinda need to order it this week so it gets here in time to practice...
Since you are on a D7500, sticking with AF-P glass is probably your best bet. Those lenses are snappy and way sharper than the old kit zooms.
- Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR
- Light, fast, and dirt cheap used.
- Tamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD
- Better build quality if you dont mind the extra weight. The AF-P DX is basically the king of budget zooms right now... just make sure you get the VR version for that wedding.
Just found this thread. I have been very satisfied with the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR because it feels safer to use for a wedding.
- VR system is very reliable for handheld shots.
- Metal mount feels much more secure than plastic ones... I usually check the technical reviews on DPReview or the Nikon support site first. its a good way to be 100 percent sure about compatibility.
