Hi there! The best lens for your Nikon Z6 II really depends on what type of photography you plan to do most. Here are some great options to consider:

Best Everyday Lens

  1. Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 - A versatile zoom with a wide aperture that delivers good sharpness in a compact package. Perfect as a step up from the kit lens.

Most Versatile Lens

  1. Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S - If you need more zoom range, this lens provides a 5x zoom with edge-to-edge sharpness. Ideal as a general-purpose lens.

Best Wide-Angle

  1. Nikon Z 14-30mm f/4 S - Nikon offers several great wide-angle options, but this affordable lens provides excellent sharpness for the Z6 II.

Best Compact Lens

  1. Nikon Z 40mm f/2 - A fantastic pancake lens for street photography or travel. Takes up minimal space in your bag.

Best for Portraits

  1. Nikon Z 85mm f/1.8 S - Nikon managed to combine high-quality bokeh with an attractive price point in this prime lens. Perfect for portraits.

Best Telephoto

  1. Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S - While an investment, the superb image quality of this zoom makes it a lens you'll value for years.

Best Super-Telephoto

  1. Nikon Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S - For sports or wildlife, this zoom provides the reach you need along with exceptional sharpness.

Best for Macro

  1. Nikon Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S - In addition to stunning extreme close-ups, this prime also excels at general-purpose photography.

The key is to prioritize the focal lengths and apertures that best suit the type of photos you want to take most often. Investing in quality glass is always worthwhile.

Like someone mentioned, there are already a bunch of options on the table here, from the 24-120 to those newer primes. Honestly tho, I've been pretty disappointed with the build quality of these newer Z lenses lately. They feel a bit hollow and plasticky compared to the old glass I'm used to. IIRC, I saw some teardown photos where the internal ribbon cables and plastic clips looked way more fragile than the old F-mount gear. Not sure but I think I heard that the weather sealing on the non-S line stuff isnt as good as expected either... someone told me it's basically just a rubber ring and a prayer. If you're a DIY person or just cautious about your gear actually lasting ten years, it's a bit worrying. I'd probably avoid the budget zooms and stick to the high-end S-line glass if you can swing it, tho even those feel a bit too electronic for me sometimes. Just feels like they aren't really made to be repaired anymore if something goes wrong out in the field.

Z 24-70mm f/2.8 is one of the best choices for everyday's photography.

Z 14-30mm and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 are two good lenses for Z6 II.

For prime lens, I'd recommended the new released NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 lens.
