Finally got a Z6ii for a Japan trip and need one lens that can just stay on the body. I read the 24-120mm f/4 is the standard but some people say the 24-70 f/2.8 is the only one worth getting despite the weight.

I'm on a budget so whats actually the best all-around lens?

Unfortunately, I had issues with the chromatic aberration on the cheaper kit lenses, so they arent as good as expected for high-res sensors. For your budget, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S is the real winner. It features a constant f/4 aperture and impressive MTF charts for a zoom. Ngl, the f/2.8 is too bulky for walking around Tokyo anyway... Just lmk if you need more spec data!

Over the years, I've found weight is the real enemy.

To add to the point above: honestly its ridiculous that we even have to have this conversation about budget when every decent piece of glass costs a months rent now. It drives me crazy how the big manufacturers have basically abandoned the hobbyist who doesnt want to drop two grand on a single zoom lens. It's a joke. Truly. Calling a thousand dollar lens budget is such a scam if you ask me. I have to disagree with the idea that any of these are truly budget-friendly for a trip to Japan where you already spent a fortune on flights and hotels. The pricing structure for these newer mounts is designed to bleed us dry. Quality control across the board seems to be slipping while prices keep climbing... it is exhausting trying to find a middle ground that actually works without feeling like you are getting ripped off by corporate greed.
