Trying to find one lens for my Z6ii before a Japan trip next month. I read the 24-120mm f4 is the gold standard but some say the 2.8 is better for low light.
- budget: under $1200
- use: street/family
- weight: portable
Is the f4 actually enough or am I gonna regret not getting the faster one?
Honestly, for a Japan trip where youll be walking like 20k steps a day, i would suggest sticking with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S. I know people worry about f/4, but the Z6ii is a beast at high ISO, so you wont struggle as much as you think in low light. You might want to consider that f/2.8 glass is usually much heavier or way over your budget. Be careful about choosing something like the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 just for the aperture; you might regret losing that 24mm wide end for landscape and architecture shots in Kyoto. Make sure to prioritize the zoom range for travel... its way more versatile for family stuff. Tbh the 24-120 is basically the perfect travel companion. Let me know if you want more details on how it handles the night streets tho!
