I finally pulled the trigger and got a used Nikon Z6 because I've heard such good things about the photos it takes but honestly I am so lost right now. I'm going on a trip to Kyoto and Tokyo in like three weeks and I'm super excited to take some actual good pictures for once instead of just using my phone but looking at all these lens options is making my head spin. I dont really understand what the numbers mean like the f/4 vs f/2.8 or what 24-70 vs 24-120 even does in real life. I only have about 700 bucks left in my budget for a lens so I really just need one thing that can do everything like buildings and people and maybe some food shots too. I really dont want to be that person swapping lenses every five minutes on the street because I'll probably drop something or get dust in the camera body which scares me. Is there like one goldilocks lens that stays on the camera all the time and just works for everything? Sorry if this is a totally newbie question I just have no idea where to even start with the Z mount stuff... what would you guys buy if you could only pick one?
Honestly, I had issues with cheap zooms failing me during travel before. Its so frustrating. Unfortunately, the basic kit lenses are not as good as expected for a serious trip like that. For Kyoto, I'd grab a used Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S. Its built better, tho I was disappointed with the limited reach. Its the safest bet for your budget.
