Which Nikon lens is actually worth the money right now cause honestly im fed up with spending a fortune on glass that barely delivers. Im shooting mostly street stuff and low light stuff around Chicago and my current kit is just not cutting it anymore, images keep coming out super soft and Ive already wasted like 500 bucks on junk adapters and cheap third party lenses that broke within a month. My max budget is around 400 or 500 dollars tops for a used or new prime or zoom, I just need something reliable before my trip next month. Seriously what do you guys use that doesnt break the bank...

In my experience, sticking to genuine first-party glass is the only way to avoid wasting money on junk that breaks. Since you are shooting street and low light in Chicago, reliability and sharpness are non-negotiable. Over the years, I've tried many budget options, but few stand up to heavy daily use. Here is what I recommend for your budget:

  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G: You can easily find this used for under 200 bucks. It is incredibly sharp, handles low light like a champ, and has survived rain and sub-zero Chicago winters in my bag.
  • Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G: If your camera is a crop sensor, this is arguably the best value lens ever made. Around 150 used, lightweight, and punches way above its price tag. Stop messing with adapters and third-party gamble lenses. Grab one of these and your soft image problem will disappear immediately.
