honestly im just totally fed up with my current setup and i need to vent/get some actual advice before i go crazy. i spent way too much money on the sony 24-70mm gm ii thinking it would be the ultimate do-it-all lens for my a7iv but after lugging it around kyoto for two weeks my shoulder is literally bruised. its just so heavy and bulky for walking 20k steps a day and i found myself leaving the camera in the hotel room halfway through the trip which is just depressing because i bought the damn thing to actually take photos.

im looking for something that wont break my back but still gives me that full frame quality because im not ready to go back to aps-c or anything like that. i have another trip coming up to iceland in about six weeks so i need to figure this out fast. i was looking at the tamron 28-200mm because people say its the king of travel lenses but then i worry about the 28mm not being wide enough for landscapes? or maybe the sony 24-105mm g? but thats kinda old now isnt it? i dont know i just want something that makes me actually want to pick up my camera again.

my budget is around $1300 but i could stretch it if its something that will actually save my sanity. im mostly doing:

  • street photography
  • some wide landscapes
  • occasional portraits of my wife

it needs to be sharp enough that i dont regret selling my gm but light enough that i dont feel like im carrying a brick around my neck all day. what are you guys actually using for your one lens travel kit these days? am i crazy for wanting to trade down from a gold master lens just for the weight savings or is this a common thing...

I've been very satisfied with the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS. It is a reliable choice that works well for travel and provides consistent quality without being too heavy for me.
