What lens can I actually keep on my Sony a7iv all day without wanting to throw it? Honestly so over swapping between my 35 and 85 primes every five minutes at weddings and I missed the cake cutting last week cuz of it. Need a zoom under $1300 that doesnt suck... is the 24-105 f4 any good?

> is the 24-105 f4 any good? Honestly, Ive been there... missing shots is the worst feeling ever. You might want to consider the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 instead of that Sony f4 tho. The Sony is sharp but make sure to think about the lighting. For weddings, f4 is kinda risky when it gets dark. The Tamron gives you that extra stop which is basically a lifesaver during receptions.

@OLRoy - good point! f/4 is definitely pushing it for indoor events. I've tried many zooms on the a7iv over the years and while the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS is sharp, that f/4 is a major bottleneck. In my experience, that one stop of light is the difference between a clean shot and a grainy mess when you're shooting at 1/125s during a reception. Honestly, check out the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art. It's well under your $1300 limit and the optics are pro-grade. You get the 24mm width which is vital for the dance floor. If you want something more nimble, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 is technically brilliant for the price, though the 28mm starting point is a bit tight for my taste. I'd go Sigma tho... the build quality is tank-like and you won't miss your primes as much. f/4 is great for hiking, but for weddings? Nah.

just stumbled on this and man, i feel your pain. juggling a 35 and 85 at a wedding is basically an olympic sport and ive definitely missed key moments because i was mid-swap. its the worst feeling when you look up and the moment is already over. im actually looking for the same kind of solution right now because i cant deal with the stress anymore. how strict is that 1300 budget for you? like are you looking for something brand new with a warranty or are you cool with the used market to save some cash? also, do you find yourself needing the 24mm wide end often or is 28mm usually enough for your reception shots? sometimes that extra 4mm makes a huge difference in tight venues.
