Look I've got this high-end jewelry shoot in NYC next Thursday and my current glass just isnt cutting it for these macro-adjacent crops. Ive been looking at the 50mm 1.2 GM since everyone says its king but then I see people swearing the 135mm GM is actually sharper across the frame.
Then there's the Sigma 85mm DG DN which is way cheaper but is it actually 'sharper' or just high contrast? I need absolute clinical perfection because these prints are gonna be huge and I dont have time to rent and test everything before the deadline. My budget is $2100 max. Which one actually wins for pure resolution on an a7R V?
In my experience, absolute resolution on the a7R V is easily ruined by small technical errors. Over the years, I have learned to watch out for these specific issues:
- Avoid lenses with significant field curvature; it kills the clarity at the edges of the frame.
- Be cautious with ultra-fast glass since wide apertures often sacrifice clinical micro-contrast.
- Watch for chromatic aberration, it is a nightmare on reflective metallic surfaces.
