Sony FE 24mm F2.8 G, 40mm F2.5 G and 50mm F2.5 G Lens Announced, Priced $598, Available for Pre-Order

Sony has just officially announced three new G lenses:  Sony FE 24mm F2.8 G, Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G and Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G lens. They are compact, full-frame prime lenses for Sony E-mount for $598, first available for pre-Order at B&H/ Adorama.

Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G

Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G lens is the widest lens in Sony’s new bunch. It has 8 elements in 7 groups, and uses both aspherical and ED glass. The focus group is driven by a pair of linear motors. The lens’ minimum focus distance is 0.18m (7.1″) and the max magnification is 0.19x. The 24mm F2.8 has a metal housing, an aperture ring with a click/de-click switch, and claimed weather-sealing. It weighs just 162 grams (5.7 ounces).

Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G is a compact, full-frame prime lens for E-mount. It has 9 elements in 9 groups, and uses aspherical glass in 3 of them. The focus group is driven by a pair of linear motors. The lens’ minimum focus distance is 0.25m (9.8″) and the max magnification is 0.23x.

The lens’ minimum focus distance is 0.31m (12.2″) and the max magnification is 0.21x. The 50mm F2.5 has a metal housing, an aperture ring with a click/de-click switch, and claimed weather-sealing. It weighs just 174 grams (6.2 ounces).
