Maciej Latałło has just posted a full review of the newly released Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Lens (Amazon/ B&H/ Adorama) at the LensTip.com. He tested this new lens on Sony a7R III and found such pros: very good image quality in the frame centre across the whole focal range, sensible image quality on the edge of the frame, lack of any serious problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration, slight lateral chromatic aberration in the 30-70 mm focal range, good coma correction, moderate astigmatism, silent and very quick autofocus, efficient image stabilization, and unique combination of focal range and aperture fastness.
Here is the verdict “This lens managed to achieve the most important task: despite a very large and very universal focal range combined with a good, fixed f/2.8 aperture fastness, it guarantees a very good image quality across the frame, no matter what focal lenght you employ. It seems the tested Tamron performs even a tad better than you would expect, and, as such, it fully deserves a very high final assessment it got.”
Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens is a standard zoom with unique specifications that extends the telephoto end to 70mm while maintaining F2.8 through, but the image quality is good from full aperture over the entire zoom range, and the amount of peripheral light drops. I have the impression that it is well organized, although it has some drawbacks such as backlight resistance.
