Ive been shooting with Canon bodies for like a decade now so Im not exactly a newbie but man this 90D is giving me a headache lately. I upgraded from my old Rebel a while back and while I love the resolution for prints the crop factor is just killing me on landscapes. I took it out to the gorge last weekend with my 17-40mm L series thinking it would be fine but everything felt so cramped and tight once you do the math for that 1.6x sensor. Its basically a normal lens at that point which is useless for what I want to do.
Im heading out to Glacier National Park in about three weeks and I realized I dont have anything that actually feels wide enough to capture the scale of the mountains. I looked at the EF-S 10-18mm since its cheap but Im worried about the build quality and if its sharp enough for big prints since I usually sell a few pieces a year. My budget is around 800 bucks maybe a bit more if the glass is really worth it. Is the Tokina 11-20mm still the go-to for these bodies or is there something newer that handles chromatic aberration better? I really need something that doesnt turn the corners into mush when Im stopped down to f/8 or f/11. Kinda regret not just going full frame sometimes but Im stuck with this body for now...
Honestly, that frustration hit me hard when I took my setup to the Grand Canyon. Everything felt way too tight and I couldnt fit the scale... it really ruined some of my best shots. Definitely be careful with the cheaper wide options tho, since some really struggle with flare near the peaks. You might want to consider looking at specialized ultra-wide glass to keep those corners from turning into mush.
