im honestly getting so frustrated with my current setup and i need some real advice before i lose my mind. i picked up the canon r6 mark ii a few months ago and while the body is amazing the rf 24-105 f4 kit lens is just... blah. its so clinical and the background blur is basically non-existent for the style i want.

i have a pretty big outdoor portrait session coming up in october near the lake and i need that creamy bokeh everyone talks about. i tried using my old ef 85mm 1.8 with an adapter but the autofocus keeps hunting and missing eyes half the time which is just unacceptable for a camera this expensive. it makes me feel like i wasted my money on the body if the glass cant keep up with the eye tracking.

i have about 1500 to 1800 dollars to spend and i just want one lens that stays on the camera and makes people go wow. do i go for the rf 85mm f2 or is that too slow? or should i just suck it up and save for the 1.2 version even though it costs a literal kidney? maybe a sigma with an adapter is the way to go? i just want something that works and doesnt make my photos look like they came from a phone. what are you guys using that actually gives that pro look without being a total headache to carry around?

The R6 Mark II is an amazing body and you definitely need the right glass to see what it can really do! For your budget, the Canon RF 85mm f2 Macro IS STM is a fantastic and practical choice that delivers beautiful results. It is lightweight and the autofocus integration with the eye tracking is incredibly reliable for outdoor portraits. My primary tip for your upcoming session is to increase the distance between your subject and the background to maximize the bokeh effect even at f2. If you want that extra wow factor, the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG HSM Art used with an adapter is an amazing alternative that fits your price range perfectly. It provides that signature professional look and the background blur is honestly stunning. You will love how much of a difference these lenses make compared to your current kit setup!
